Auto and car dealerships are becoming more and more dependent upon social media for many purposes, including customer service, loyalty, referrals and sales. Okay, that was my #NSS (No Sh!t Sherlock) moment for the day but the important point is that social media is valuable, yet many of us (even many social media marketers) struggle with how to get the most value out of social media and Facebook as business people.
I am going to be the first to admit the internet and social media is a very complex and challenging space to operate in. Frequently in conversations with business owners, clients and other marketers I say;
Sometimes I wish the world would stop innovating, I feel that one day I have a good grasp on leverage digital and social then the next I feel overwhelmed.
It does NOT have to be this way, it took me 5 years to learn this lesson so PLEASE listen to what I have to write and say. Do NOT get caught up in the mindset of “Keeping up with the Jones” mentality when it comes to social media. Find an improvisational comfort zone for you then work on perfecting it. Then and only then when you have feel as though you mastered one space (or social media channel), start to investigate other spaces and places.
For this reason, I will share with you some REALLY simple and effective tips that are #KillingIt in the social media spaces. The best part, you really do not need to spend much (if any at all) money or capital, most of the investment is time investment, time investment in expanding your sales and marketing skill sets.

I have experimented in pretty much EVERY space, organic and paid, imaginable in the past 5 years. We do organic social media, search engine optimization, email, paid search (AdWords), paid Facebook Ads, paid Twitter ads and even Linked In. Without exception, it’s not even close, the single most effective and engaging tool and strategy is Live video. I use it for our business, once I started leveraging Live video our phones ring 2-3 times more often (I just captured new clients from Australia and Siberia because of Live video – CRAZY). I leverage video for insurance, real estate, political campaigns and now I am developing programs (services and training) for automotive sales professionals. PLEASE, do not confuse video production with Live video, video production as effective as it may be is not even close to the performance of live Video.
I am going to be assertive here, better yet I am going to be aggressive. DO NOT PRESS BOOST POST, EVER, EVER, EVER! Find partners with a large and loyal following and work together to co-promote each other. Another #NSS moment but sometimes people. It could be a restaurant, insurance agent, coffee shop it could be ANYBODY or ANY BUSINESS which, “The sum of the parts is greater than the parts of the sum.” Sending intelligent and easy to understand messages and post across two audiences is easier and much more effective and the good news is it’s FREE! “Stop by [name of dealership] today and check out our new [car model] and get a free coffee to [local coffee shop]!” Make sure whoever you partner with is sharing and engaging with their audience and now you have accomplished two things; 1) Social proof, the local coffee shop (or business owner) is endorsing YOU and 2) Amplified the audience and reach.
Truth be told, anybody that knows me knows that I despise “Like and Share” posts. There are so many technical, ethical, marketing and sales reasons I could write a book. Fact is, though, as much as I do not like (or advocate them) they are effective. Publish good content, leverage Live video and combined with contests this is a winning recipe. Mind you, contests tend to be more aligned with Brand Building vs. sales but the ability to capture new subscribers and build a marketing list with contests is extremely effective.
